The covered walkways or passages are architectural features that are specific to Paris. For centuries,  their intimate atmospheres and beautifully preserved facades have tempted visitors and their vintage boutiques and traditional restaurants are flourishing. Discover these character-filled places just a few steps from the Chess Hotel Paris.

The style and elegance of the passages

Start your discovery of the Parisian passages with some of the most elegant. For example, you'll be greeted by two beautiful stone sculptures as you enter the Galerie de la Madeleine. Inside, you'll find some of the area's most prestigious gourmet addresses. Just as stylish, the Galerie Véro-Dodat houses the workshop-boutique of the famous designer Christian Louboutin. And, you should definitely visit the Galerie Vivienne; it's the most famous of the covered Parisian walkways and known for its colourful mosaics.

Exceptional galleries

Want to be surprised or amazed? Admire the technical  feat that is the Passage du Grand-Cerf. The magnificent glass and steel structure soars to a height of over 12m! Be sure to cross the Art Deco entrance of the Galerie Colbert to admire the fabulous domed rotunda decorated with colonnades. It's also home to two of the capital's outstanding art venues, the National Institute of Heritage and the National Institute of Art History. Finally, discover the cosmopolitan face of Paris at the Galerie Brady which sometimes goes by the nickname 'Little India'. There, you'll find exotic grocery stores and restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world.

In the heart of winter, it's possible to escape the elements as you walk in Paris, thanks to these covered passages. Discover their exceptional architecture, explore their prestigious shops and gourmet tea rooms or just wander in to see what's hidden behind the threshold of Paris's covered galleries.
