FIAC: The essential contemporary art rendezvous in Paris
Categories : Events, published on : 10/5/19
Contemporary art continues to excite the cultural heart of Paris. There are more and more prestigious venues for exhibitions, including the Pompidou Centre, the Vuitton Foundation and the brand new Fluctuart, but regular events such as the FIAC also serve to maintain the scene’s considerable vitality. Read on as the Chess Hotel brings you the latest FIAC news...
The FIAC spirit
For its 46th edition, the FIAC (Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain) has again blended the ingredients that make it such a success, such as inviting galleries from around the world and established or rising artists to exhibit their best works in solo or combined shows. This year, 199 galleries will present the cream of their collections under the magnificent glass dome of the Grand Palais. The exhibition section will be complemented by various events such as the Cinéphémère (short films programme), Conversations Rooms (conferences) and Parades (performance art).
The FIAC outside the FIAC
Of course, for many art enthusiasts, the FIAC is inseparable from the bright spaces of the Grand Palais. However, each year the fair expands beyond the walls of the venue to bring the joys of contemporary art to as many people as possible. Throughout the event, which runs from October 17th to 20th, the nearby Petit Palais will also be a FIAC venue, as will the avenue that separates it from the Grand Palais, which will be pedestrianised for the duration. In addition, several emblematic places in Paris such as the Jardin des Tuileries and Place Vendôme will host works designed to interact with the atmosphere of those places. Architecture buffs will want to visit the temporary architect village that will pop up on the Place de la Concorde.
Your Chess Hotel team will tell you how to get the most out of the FIAC. Remember to browse the event’s website before your visit and book your admissions online!
