What an honour! Talented photographer and visual artist Pierre-Elie de Pibrac has partnered with the Chess Hotel. He has entrusted us with some of his splendid photos taken behind the scenes at the Opera Garnier. Now, they enhance our rooms and offer the unique opportunity to sleep alongside authentic works of art!

A tribute to our prestigious neighbour

Our regulars know it and new guests will discover it as soon as they arrive – the Chess Hotel strives to welcome you to a place that combines design with warmth in a marriage of art and elegance. So, you can imagine how happy we were to finalise this partnership with an admirable photographer whose work has been recognised around the world. Located near the Palais Garnier, where the artist was based for almost a year, the Chess Hotel was naturally interested in the intimate shots and behind-the-scenes glimpse of everyday life at this monument to ballet. An iconic place that was born under the aegis of Haussmann and inaugurated in 1875.

The grace of everyday life

From the sublime to the imaginary; words that might be used to describe the photographs of Pierre-Elie de Pibrac. The adventure began in July 2013 when the photographer installed his cameras in the heart of the Palais Garnier.  It was a moment of transition with the departure of some of the ballet's most brilliant stars and a handover of direction from Brigitte Lefèvre to Benjamin Millepied. Discreet, humble – the photographer blends into this universe and at some points takes close-up shots that are filled with feeling and sensation. Tutus and tracksuits, smiles and tears form the basis of superb pictures that recall the paintings of Degas as much for their strength as for their fluidity. An adventure that has resulted in exhibitions and books and which we are honoured to continue and delighted to share with you.
